WHAT TYPE OF FORCE CALIBRATION DO I NEED?
Precision Standards International typically calibrates a force device, such as a load cell or testing machine to either ASTM E-4 or ASTM E-74. ASTM Standards are published by ASTM International and are considered industry standards. The type of calibration you will need is dependent upon what you use your device for.
ASTM E-4 is the less expensive of the two calibrations and is generally for testing machines; such as Compression Machines, Universal Testing Machines, and Pre-Stressing Jacks. The calibration may also be used for load cells and load rings, that are used to measure the applied force in a testing machine itself.
ASTM E-74 is the more expensive and in-depth calibration. It is generally used for devices which will be used to calibrate testing machines to ASTM E-4. If the load cell or load ring being used will be used to calibrate a testing machine, or another load cell / load ring, you will need an ASTM E-74 calibration.
